Dr. Matthew Reed is a Board Certified, fellowship-trained retina surgeon. He joined Hampton Roads Eye Associates in 2006 and specializes in the medical and surgical management of potentially blinding conditions of the retina and vitreous, and offers the latest techniques in the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment.
Dr. Reed is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Muhlenberg College where he completed a double major in Biology and Philosophy. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine at the New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Reed received intern training in internal medicine at the Lankanau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA. He then returned to the New Jersey Medical School to complete his residency in ophthalmology. He received further training with a Fellowship in Vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Reed has authored various publications and book chapters. He is also a reviewer for the Archives of Ophthalmology, the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, and the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
When he is not practicing ophthalmology, Dr. Reed keeps busy carting his kids from school to swimming to kung fu to ice skating and back. He also enjoys playing golf in his spare time and spending time with his wife and their two children.
