Dr. Baochan Nguyen grew up in Oklahoma where she was a National Merit Scholar. She attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where she earned her medical degree as well as a doctorate in Neuroscience in 2009. Dr. Nguyen went west for residency training at the University of California Los Angeles Jules Stein Eye Institute to become an ophthalmologist before returning to her alma mater in Dallas for five years as Assistant Professor, where she served as Medical Director of the Parkland Hospital Eye Clinic and as Associate Residency Program Director of the Ophthalmology training program.
Dr. Nguyen practices comprehensive ophthalmology and is trained to recognize and treat the entire spectrum of eye diseases, including cataract, pterygia, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy using medicines, lasers, and surgery. She has trained >40 resident physicians and proctored them through hundreds of cataract surgeries. She is experienced with all the latest cataract surgery techniques and technologies including astigmatism correction, femtosecond laser assisted procedures, and premium intraocular lenses.
Dr. Nguyen is married to an internist and has two children, as well as a white, fluffy dog, that keep her busy when she is not at work. She chose ophthalmology because she wanted to work in a field that would greatly impact people’s lives. Her favorite part of the job is getting to meet and talk with so many people, all the while having the opportunity to put her years of education to practical use!
